In practice 'demand-led design' means that ‘user-clients’ lead the design process rather than ‘money clients’. This may seem like a somewhat back-to-front approach, but ultimately it is an argument for ensuring sustainability. ‘Money-clients’ of course, are public sector bodies like housing associations, education authorities and primary care trusts, who often come up with the idea and the money to do community design projects like this in the first place.

However, community clients often have to work hard to pull-in funding for themselves.
