Awarded Royal Town Planning Regional Award 2007, and a commendation for the National Award 2007(Community Engagement Category).

The project proposes four ideas for public art works, focused on the Housing Market Renewal intervention areas in Burnley, East Lancashire. The ideas are designed to prompt discussion about the present and future effects of Housing Market Renewal in each area. They also reflect people’s experience of Housing Market Renewal. All four ideas were shaped in conversation with Burnley residents.

Our brief emphasised involving young people and other local groups in the formation of ideas and also emphasised developing relationships between the community and private developers. It proved difficult to make links with the multitude of existing local initiatives. Therefor the brief was often proved to be over-ambitious. But we succeeded in drawing up four imaginative proposals for public art projects in consultation with mixed-age, mixed-race community groups. More detailed proposals and costings, are now drawn up in preparation for further funding applications. 'Peer Plaques' is ready to be installed in early 2008 and an instance of 'Landform' will go into detailed design production in April 2008. (more ...)
